PGCB Imposes Fines on Casino Operators and Bans Individuals from Gambling
The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) recently took action against three gaming operators, imposing fines totaling $282,205. The largest fine of $260,905 was levied against BetMGM for self-exclusion violations, where 152 instances of allowing self-excluded individuals to gamble online were reported. This serious violation of the state’s gambling laws led to the hefty penalty for BetMGM.
Additionally, Rush Street Gaming and Stadium Casino Westmoreland were fined for smaller infractions. Rush Street Gaming received a $13,800 penalty for failing to file a license renewal application for its chief financial officer. On the other hand, Stadium Casino Westmoreland, operating Live! Casino Pittsburgh, was fined $7,500 for using revoked software in 11 of its slot machines.
PGCB’s Involuntary Self-Exclusion List
Alongside the fines, the PGCB also added nine individuals to its involuntary self-exclusion list. Four adults were banned for leaving children unattended while gambling at a Pennsylvania property. One incident involved a male casino patron leaving a 12-year-old unattended in a vehicle at Live! Casino Philadelphia, resulting in a fine for cheating and trespass.
Similarly, an adult woman was banned after leaving a 12-year-old unattended in the bus lobby of Mount Airy Casino Resort. The woman played slots for approximately 26 minutes while the child waited. The PGCB also rejected requests from two individuals to be removed from the self-exclusion list, one for leaving five minors unattended in a vehicle and another for leaving a 14-month-old child in a locked car during hot weather while placing sports bets.
The PGCB emphasized that leaving minors unattended is strictly prohibited in casinos, with violators facing inclusion on the involuntary exclusion list. Since its establishment, 1,280 individuals have been placed on the casino involuntary exclusion list, with 62 people banned from iGaming.
