Suspect in Tupak Shakur’s Murder Faces Additional Charge

A man who is facing charges on suspicion of orchestrating the murder of Tupac Shakur, the iconic rapper known across the globe by his stage name 2Pac, recently received an additional charge after an accident behind bars.

The Sole Suspect in 2Pac’s Murder Case

Previously, the 61-year-old Duane “Keffe D” Davis publicly revealed that he was riding in the same car that participated in a drive-by shooting that resulted in the death of Tupac, media reports suggest. With Davis reportedly admitting to riding in the passenger seat of the car, he faced murder chargers for his suspected involvement in the shooting.

The suspect is currently held at the Clark County Detention Center and his bail for the murder charge is set at $750,000. However, as announced by KLAS, Davis is now facing another charge after an incident that took place inside the Clark County Detention Center. Reportedly, the 61-year-old was charged with battery by a prisoner. On Friday, a Clark County judge set the suspect’s bail at $50,000 for the battery charge.

This is a tough period for Davis, considering that only recently, his attempt to dismiss the murder case in relation to Tupac Shakur’s death was shut down. On Tuesday last week, Judge Carli Kierny rejected the suspect’s attempt to dismiss the case. This came after Davis’ defense argued that he received an immunity protection offer. However, Judge Kierny rejected the motion to dismiss the murder case, explaining that the 61-year-old man wasn’t offered any such deal in Nevada.

Drive-by Shooting Results in the Tragic Death of an Iconic Rapper

2Pac’s tragic death dates to September 1996. Shakur and his entourage visited a boxing match between Bruce Seldon and Mike Tyson at MGM Grand in Las Vegas on September 7, 1996. The iconic rapper was accompanied by Suge Knight and they were headed to Club 662, a popular nightclub owned by Knight. While traveling in a black BMW 750iL sedan, a four-door Cadillac sedan pulled up near the rapper’s vehicle.

One of the occupants of the nearby car started to fire rounds into Knight and Shakur’s car at approximately 11:15 PM while the two vehicles were at a stop light. While fragments of the shots hurt Knight, Shakur was hit by a total of four bullets. Two bullets hit 2Pac’s chest, one hit his arm, and one hit his thigh.

The iconic rapper was transported to the University Medical Center of Southern Nevada. Despite the efforts of the doctors and several days in intensive care, Shakur succumbed to his death due to internal bleeding on September 13, 1996.

Duane “Keffe D” Davis is the only suspect that ever faced charges in relation to the murder of 2Pac. Also, he is likely the last living suspect of the brutal crime that claimed the life of one of the most iconic rappers of all time. A hearing next month will determine if Davis’ trial will start in March.
